About Child Mental Help
I am a child and adolescent psychiatrist with fourteen years in practicing community psychiatry. I work in two busy clinics that offer child and adolescent mental health services in Syracuse, New York.
If you are reading these lines it is quite likely that yourself, your child, or someone you love has a mental health problem. Or maybe you want to learn more about this field in order to help others.
To all of you, welcome!
The idea for this website started as an attempt to provide my patients, their families, and anyone else interested, with longer-format information on various topics of interest. As medical appointments are often rather short, I started thinking about what could be done if time was not an issue.
But time is not the only problem. Thing is, nobody can learn ‘everything‘ about conditions like ADHD or anxiety. But we can learn a lot, over time, with the right method and with the proper guidance. And, everything learned, would not be of much benefit if it is not applied in some way. Not much benefit from learning about a problem if you do not also learn ‘what to do about it‘. Then, of course, not much benefit from knowing ‘what to do about it’ if you do not actually do it.
WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?
WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT?
WHAT OBSTACLES PREVENT ME TO DO JUST THAT?
The method I will use is pretty straightforward. Will start with brief posts on basic but important psychological and medical information referring to the most common disorders in child psychiatry. Each post should not take more than 10-15 minutes to read, and will be organized in a way that aims at building a gradual, actionable understanding for these situations.
I hope you will find these ‘collections’ of posts useful and over time I will try to expand in the directions in which you, the readers, will show interest.
